Drawing on artefacts from John and Sunday Reed’s Personal Effects Collection, the group exhibition places everyday belongings that trace life at Heide in dialogue with contemporary creative practices. Focusing on artists whose work translate personal histories and re-contextualise found materials, this exhibition probes the instability of memory in the archive.
For the exhibition, Nusra Latif Qureshi has been commissioned by Heide to produce a new object-based vitrine installation, working directly with the museum’s collection to explore of ideas of inheritance, displacement, belonging, value systems, and the quiet negotiations of history and identity. Also on show are works from Qureshi’s Substantial Reflections photographic series, first shown at Sutton Gallery as a part of her inaugural gallery exhibition Simulacra – strategies of selves in 2013.
