Tapestry works by Karen Black are currently on view at the Australian Tapestry Workshop’s booth (K8) at Melbourne Art Fair 2026.
Made during the artist’s recent residency at the ATW, the works translate intricate vignettes sourced within Black’s oil paintings. Working with expert in-house weaver Pamela Joyce, the works explore new ways of articulating Black’s gestural language into woven form.
Expanding an ongoing dialogue between medium, surface, and scale, the residency provided a unique opportunity to reimagine Black’s painterly process through the slow, meticulous endeavour of tapestry weaving.
