“Gian Manik, whose work occupies the main gallery, revels in the tensions of being-in any-place, whether dreamt and faraway, or awake and nearby”
– Rosemary Overell, 2026
The group exhibition Dreaming from afar (Gus Fisher Gallery, University of Auckland) has been reviewed in Art New Zealand magazine. Including a major new suite of paintings by Gian Manik alongside works from Tyrone Te Waa and brunelle dias primbs, the exhibition considers the complexities of history and nostalgia through a painterly environment that blends the physical with the imaginary.
