David Rosetzky: Air to Atmosphere

David Rosetzky’s Air to Atmosphere was produced on the occasion of the artist’s solo exhibition at Castlemaine Art Museum as part of the 2023 Castlemaine State Festival. Stemming from a series of conversations Rosetzky initiated with members of the LGBTQIA+ community on Dja Dja Wurrung Country in Central Victoria, the project traverses photography, filmmaking, choreography, performance, song, poetry, publishing and social encounter.

Extending Rosetzky’s collaborations with the local community, the publication features conversation transcripts, original song lyrics, a newly commissioned essay by art historian Professor Anne Marsh and poems by Terence Jaensch, alongside full-colour reproductions of the video stills and portraits. Printed in a limited edition of 250, each book features a unique quote and cover design.

David Rosetzky: Composite Acts

David Rosetzky’s Composite Acts is an interdisciplinary and collaborative project that traverses the fields of video, speech, choreography, performance, set design, and photography. Through the artistic and personal contributions of diverse artists and practitioners, these composite parts are brought together in an intimate exploration of memory, identity, and the relative and fragmentary nature of the self.

This publication draws together critical reflections, visual material, and artist insights to form a catalogue, an archive, a composite picture of this major project. Each print edition contains an individual and unique cover design.

David Rosetzky: Double Exposures cover

David Rosetzky: Double Exposures

This exquisite limited-edition book, designed by Anna Zagala/Sweet Polka brings together 45 photographs by artist David Rosetzky accompanied by an essay from Dr Shaune Lakin, Senior Curator of Photography at the National Gallery of Australia, and a Q & A between David Rosetzky and fellow artist Hoda Afshar.

Rosetzky’s use of the double-exposure results in a single, combined image that is created through a process of chance – and the random placement of pictorial elements within the frame. This process enables the artist a fluid and hybrid approach to representation – and is suggestive of relative and shifting states of being and ways of looking that extends beyond conventional portrait formats. This ongoing series explores new ways of representing queer, non-binary, and marginal identities through photography. ISBN: 978-0-6484899-4-8

One of Australia’s finest video artists, David Rosetzky creates intensely beautiful lens-based works exploring identity, subjectivity and relationships. Increasingly, he collaborates with professionals from the fields of theatre, dance, film and sound. Drawing on fifteen years of practice True Self: David Rosetzky Selected Works presents early portrait and longer duration videos, photographs, photo-collages and sculptures, revealing telling relationships between these aspects of his practice.

The catalogue for this exhibition features text by 13 writers, all responding to particular works and themes in Rosetzky’s practice.
