David Rosetzky, David Rosetzky

Sutton Gallery is pleased to present a new video work by David Rosetzky, ♥ forever. In this arrestingly beautiful work Rosetzky explores certain aspects of the nature of romantic love with its inter-play between artifice and reality, the clichéd and the genuine.
Masterfully stylised and moody, ♥ forever takes the viewer in a comfortable embrace as it follows a young couple to a series of picturesque and romantic locations in the Yarra Valley region of Victoria. As we follow these journeys Rosetzky devises subtle and artful means for us to consider the authenticity of this experience. The singularity of subjectivity is questioned, suggesting a certain fluidity within the nature of identity. ♥ forever maintains Rosetzky's trademark technical and aesthetic precision, resulting in imagery that resembles the idealised visuals found in high end advertising and screen culture.

Dr. Gerard Vaughan, Director, National Gallery of Victoria, describes Rosetzky's work in the following way: "The contemplative nature of his work is complemented by the nuanced choreography enacted by the characters, quietly reflecting on the often mediated social interactions that we experience, and how we negotiate our own inner psychology and notions of self in relations to others. His staged filmic works place the individual under scrutiny, subtly unearthing the disjunction between public person and private self, something that we can all relate to in our own lives." - exhibition catalogue, TWMA Contemporary 2010.

David Rosetzky has developed a strong international reputation over the past decade, having been included in a substantial number of important international projects, including The Third ICP Triennial of Photography and Video, International Centre for Photography, New York, 2009; Viewpoints & Viewing Points, 2009 Asian Art Biennial National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Taiwan; 2004 Lithuania Biennial and Face Up at the Hamburger Bahnhoff, Berlin, 2003. He has been Artist in Residence at Glasgow School of Art, Scotland, and Dunedin Public Art Gallery, New Zealand. In 2008 The National Portrait Gallery, Canberra commissioned Rosetzky to create a video portrait of Cate Blanchett for their inaugural exhibition.
