The Anatomy Lesson included works from across Melbourne University's collections, rare anatomical texts and prints from the Baillieu Library Special Collections, historical works from the VCA collection as well as contemporary works from the Vizard Foundaton Collection on loan to the Ian Potter Museum of Art. Works from a number of contemporary artists with a connection to the University were also included.
Ruth Hutchinson, who studied anatomy briefly at the University in the 1980s, continued her interest in anatomical and physiological structures throughout her career. A selection of her works were strategically situated throughout the exhibition to form an unsettling counterpoint to the more traditional anatomical texts and images.
